Jack the Ripper Timeline

As much information on the Whitechapel murders has been fictionalized, this is the Real Timeline of the events 1887-1891. As research progresses, more information will be added when available.

12-26-1887 (Mon) Fairy Fay.
Female.
Commercial Road.
Stake through the torso.
Possible Hoax.  Possible press creation.

2-25-1888 (Sat) Annie Millwood.
Female, Age 38
Admitted to Whitechapel workhouse infirmary.
Stab wounds to legs and lower abdomen.
Survived.
*3-31-1888 Died of natural causes.

3-28-1888 (Wed) Ada Wilson.
Female.
Stabbed twice in neck.
Survived.

4-3-1888 (Tue) Emma Elizabeth Smith.
Female.
Osborn Street, Whitechapel.
Robbery and sexual assault.
Attacked by 2 men and 1 teenager.
*4-4-1888 COD: Died due to complications from the assault.

8-7-1888 2:30 AM (Tue) Martha Tabram.
Female.
Prostitution.
George Yard, Whitechapel.
COD: 39 stab wounds.

8-31-1988 3:40 AM (Fri) Mary Ann Nichols. (nick: Polly)
Female, Age 43.  Separated from Husband.
Prostitution, Alcoholic.
Buck's Row, (now Dorward St) Whitechapel.
COD: Strangulation.
Throat cut twice, Abdomen partially ripped open.  Additional slashes on abdomen.

*9-5-1888  Star releases “Leather Apron” description associated with Jews.

9-8-1888 6:00 AM (Sat) Annie Chapman.
Female, Age 47.  Husband recently died.
Prostitution, Alcoholic.
29 Hanbury St, Spitalfields backyard near doorway.
COD: Strangulation.
Throat cut by 2 cuts, partial decapitation..  Abdomen slashed open.
Removal of Uterus.  Intestines pulled out and placed above shoulder.
*Witness claimed to see victim at 5:30 AM with dark haired, shabby “genteel” appearance.

*9-10-1888  John Pizor aka “Leather Apron” arrested.  Released after confirmation of alibis for two of the murders.

*9-24-1888  Author George Bernard Shaw pens letter on protesting living conditions.

*9-27-1888 (Thu) “Dear Boss” letter received signed “Jack the Ripper.”  This letter was not made public until later.  Letter possibly created by a journalist from The Star.

Double Event

9-30-1988 1:00 AM (Sun) Elizabeth Stride.
Female, Age 40’s.
Prostitution, Alcoholic.
Dutfield's Yard off Berner St, Whitechapel. (now Henriques St)
COD: Strangulation.
Throat cut. (1 incision)  Bruises.  No mutilations to abdomen.
*Witnesses claim to see victim with male, but, description do not match.

9-30-1988 1:45 AM (Sun) Catherine Eddowes.
Female.
Prostitution, Alcoholic.
Mitre Square, London.
COD: Strangulation.
Throat cut, Abdomen ripped open with one jagged cut.
Left kidney and part of Uterus removed.
Face mutilated.
*Witness  Joseph Lawende claimed he saw fair haired shabby male with victim.
This claim could not be confirmed by his companion.
A part of Eddowes bloody apron found at entrance to tenement on Goulston St.
Goulston St graffito implicates Jewish involvement.
Police Commissioner Charles Warren ordered graffito to be washed off fearing anti-Semitism riots.

*10-15-1888 (Mon)  “From Hell” letter to Mr. Lusk postmarked.  Included partial kidney.
*10-16-1888 (Tue)  Lusk receives package with letter and kidney.

11-2-1888 (Fri) Female Torso.
Metropolitan Police Headquarters basement, Whitehall.
Headless, Armless, Legless.
Arm found in Thames near Pimlico.
Leg found buried near where torso was discovered.
Other limbs, head, never recovered.
Dubbed "Whitehall Mystery."
Due to similarities with Pinchin, both called “Thames Murders” and, killer dubbed “Torso Killer.”

11-9-1888 10:45 AM (Fri) Mary Jane Kelly.
Female, Age 25.
Prostitution.
13 Miller's Court, Spitalfields. (off Dorset St.)
COD: Strangulation.
Throat cut to spine.
Abdomen cut opened and virtually emptied.
Breasts cut off.
Heart was missing.
Face mutilated. Nose, ears, cheeks removed.
Killed inside single room.

11-21-1888 (Wed) Annie Farmer.
Female.
Superficial cuts on neck.
Possibly self inflicted.
Resided in same boarding house as Martha Tabram.

12-20-1888 (Thu) Rose Mylett.
Female.
Clarke's Yard, High St, Poplar.
COD: Strangulation.
Original finding: accidental death while drunk or suicide.
Official inquest: Murder.

12-29-1888 (Sat) John Gill.
Male, Age 7.
Manningham, Bradford.
Legs severed, abdomen cut open.
Intestines pulled out.
Heart and one ear removed.
Similar to Mary Kelly.
* William Barrett (Milkman, boys employer) arrested twice and released twice.

6-2-1889 (Sun)- 6-25-1889 (Tue) Elizabeth Jackson.
Female.
Body parts found in Thames.

7-17-1889 (Wed) Alice McKenzie.
Female.
Castle Alley, Whitechapel.
Severed left carotid artery.
Some bruises and cuts.
Possible copycat of Ripper.

9-10-1889 (Tue) The Pinchin St Torso.
Female.
Pinchin St, Whitechapel, under railway arch.
Headless, Armless.
Murder committed elsewhere, body parts disposed elsewhere.

2-13-1891 (Fri) Frances Cole.
Female.
Swallow Gardens, Whitechapel, under railway arch.
Throat cut, no body mutilations.
* 3-3-1891 James Thomas Sadler arrested and released due to lack of evidence.

4-24-1891 (Fri) Carrie Brown.  (nick: Shakespeare)
Female.
New York City, NY, USA.
Large tear is groin area.
Superficial cuts on legs and back.
Ovary found next to remains on bed.
